Stirling Champs, a leadership blog

Lewis talks about his leadership

“Hey I’m Lewis, I’m 16!

I belong to Stirling Champs. As a young person I attend the Monday night group and we get involved in all sorts!  Tonight we had a good old discussion about what we wanted shared at Stirling’s Corporate Parenting meeting which is happening later this week and also our Champs Steering Group.  Everyone gets the chance to have an input and we always have lots to say.

We also did some planning for the summer, we like to have lots of fun but there is a very boring thing that Tracy always reminds us about which is the budget!

There is approx. 50 of us who attend Champs every week over different age groups so everyone is getting a say on what they would like to do.

Every Saturday I volunteer with our Minichamps group, I have been doing this for approx. 16 months, this group is for 5-12 year olds and I turn up every single week to help out.  I love giving my time for this group – I remember being this age and also remember how tough it was, having fun would have made all the difference for me so I like to be a part of sharing this with all of them.  I help plan and deliver the group and I especially love the relationship we all have.

At our big Champions Board meetings I was nominated by my peers to be an advocate for our Minichamps to ensure that their voice is not missed, I take this role very seriously and make sure Champs find lots of different ways to include everyone!”
